The Charge
The Charge given to the Sons of Confederate Veterans defines the organization’s enduring responsibility to preserve the memory, history, and virtues of the Confederate soldier.
The Charge
“To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we submit the vindication of the Cause for which we fought; to your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier’s good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles he loved and which made him glorious and which you also cherish.”
Our Continuing Responsibility
The Charge is more than a historic statement. It is the foundation for the SCV’s work in historical preservation, education, genealogy, cemetery preservation, memorial stewardship, and the accurate documentation of the lives and service of Confederate veterans.
